Name: CPT Michael Washington CommentsHello, My name is CPT Michael Washington, I am an Army Microbiologist currently stationed at Fort Hood, Texas. I am part of the AMEDD Microbiology History Team and I would like to get in touch with any Army Microbiologists who served during the Vietnam era for the purpose of collecting oral histories and any documentation that may be added to our repository and possibly be included in future publications aimed at increasing public awareness of the contributions of Army Laboratory Scientists in the combat support operations. I would greatly appreciate any info that I can obtain from the 9th Med Lab Veterans or any others that visit this site. Name: Bob Handren CommentsI was stationed at the Third US Army Med Lab from December 1965 to August 1968 and remember many folks preparing to deploy to the 9th Med Lab. Anyone who remembers the 1LT/CPT in the Biochemistry Division give me a shout! God bless you all. Name: Norman Smith CommentsMost of my unscheduled transportation to the boonies was by Huey (space-a), thanks to the 9th and dustoffs at Long Binh (between 69 and 71). Thanks for keeping the site up and running - the greatest. Name: John F. Davis CommentsWith great sadness I pass on news of the passing of my father, COL Charles J. Davis Jr. Dad died on Tuesday, June 19th 2007, after a long battle with cancer. His last morning was quiet and restful; my brothers and I were at Dad's bedside that morning.
The time he spent working with you was very special to him, and I know he maintained a special friendship with many of you over the years. Name: Peter Hallee CommentsI was in Vietnam from June 68 to August 69. I was a photographer with a medical ilistration detatchment which was eventually transfered to the 9th Med in Long Binh. Spent most of my time there in the pathologist office and with the guys in the next room preparing slides. Would be glad to hear from anyone from that era. Doc Hutch, 85th Evac Hosp, 142nd med det, Phu Bai 71 - 72 Name: Fred Simmons CommentsHi everyone. I spent one year stationed at 3rd Field Hosp. 6/71 to 5/72 as Captain (optometrist). I lived in Mass. BOQ next door. This site brought back lots of memories. Would love to hear from anyone who was there at that time or to visit a web site with pictures. Have often thought of going back but not sure I would recognize anything. I think it would be an emotional trip! fs Name: David White CommentsGreat site! I was stationed at HQUSMACV from 3/70 to 4/71. I lived in the Dodge City barracks and was assigned to the PSYOPs division in the headquarters. Your site brings back many memories, I remember a night at the outdoor theater when we heard small arms fire somewhere in the golf course, and we scattered and left the movie running by itself. What a night. Name: Peter Iber CommentsWhen Doc says he was shocked to see Tina, I am assuming he means the picture of her I had in the presentation at the 3rd reunion. Tina was originally obtained by Michael Wong and Asao Kamei from the troopers at the the 101st Airborne. They brought her to the 1st ML and asked if they could keep her as a mascot, she was just a puppy about 10 weeks as I remember. I had always wondered what happened to her when the 1st/9th ML Mbl left Phu Bai. One of the men was going to try and take her home, but evidentally it didn't work out. Glad to see she was given a home at the 85th and then with the Medical Company. By that time she would have been nearly 4 years old. I just wanted you all to know that I was shocked and very pleased to see TINA the mascot . I am pretty confident that we had the same dog named Tina . After the 85th evac stood down in the early part of 72 , Two doctors and a few medics, a x-ray tech. a pharmacist, and a dental assistant were reassined to the renewed 142nd Med. detachment in Phu Bai. Someone asked us if we would make Tina our mascot and we welcomed her to our family. She help us alot more than we helped her, so to say we took good care of her would be backwards. When I left in Sept of 72 she was doing great ! Still with the detachment and Dr. Carey L. Conyers (I think I spelt the Dr. name correctly. It Name: Julia CommentsHi, can I contact you by ICQ ? Hit the jackpot with your Saigon Facilities Map. Exactly what I was looking for!! I arrived in-country 9/69. Was in the Air Force teaching English to the VNAF. I first lived @ the Hung Dao (#40), then in barracks @ the MACV Compound, & finished out the year at the St. George (#33) in Cholon. Left 9/70. Paid a couple of visits to the 218th Med. Disp. (#62). Bruce Name: George Baggett CommentsI was stationed at 3rd Field Hospital Jan 1, 1969 to October 21, 1969. Before that, I spend a couple months with the 25th at Cu Chi. I worked in the Renal Unit, and remember very little, except for some of the Doctors and Nurses. We were pretty tight up there, and took care of some seriously wounded guys. Seemed like a lot of them died, and we were working around the clock. I have some pictures of the hospital and the Renal Unit. I also remember that we did a kidney transplant on a young Vietnamese kid, using his mother as the donor. Would like to hook up and know what happened to the staff. I remember the following: 1. Doctor Maken 2. Doctor Sloan 3. Captian Keller - nurse 4. Name: Brigitte Rasche CommentsHello there, I'm interested to get this complete map of Saigon but not able to open the downloaded files on my pc. Hilliard 9/71-4/72 CommentsBesides Kim Binh, Dhan, Phuoc and Col. Heiger, I don't recognize any of the other names. I was first assigned to the 9ML drug lab at Cam Ranh next to the 6th Conv. Ctr. in Sept. of '71. I was transferred to the main lab at Long Binh when the drug lab was closed just after Christmas of '71. At Long Binh, they didn't need any techs, so I was a duty driver until April of '72. Folks I DO remember...Capt. Dave Butcher, Capt. Jewell, Lt. Dinapoli, SFC Millican, 1Sgt Daniels, Bobby Dillard, Richard C. Jordan, Zale (we called him Pineapple), Bruce Honts, Chris Warden, Jim Giordano, Pedersen, SSG Terry Miles. Words are far too inadequate to express my relief and gratitude that Kim Binh, Danh, and Phuoc survived that mess after we left. Name: Steve Fowle CommentsDear 9ML'ers In these trying times, it's difficult to keep track of all the belligerent right-wingnuts urging our troops and our nation on to bigger, better, more comprehensive and expensive wars, crusades, struggles, and fistfights. So, the Nation’s Oldest Newspaper (tm) has taken it upon itself to compile the definitive compendium of that charming species known as Chickenhawks. Their Motto: “Let’s you and him go fight, I’ll hold your coat.” The Gazette’s Chickenhawk Database can be found at http://www.nhgazette.com/chickenhawks.html Additions and corrections will be gratefully received by, Yours truly Steve Fowle, 84B20, 9ML, 6/67-6/68 Name: Frank Burke, SSgt USMC Ret <joey@stvleaze.net> CommentsI finally figured out where I slept in Saigon (1967-68)-- the Hung Dao BEQ #40; and worked at the AFVN facilities #72 (I was the FM guy). I well remember Tet '68 when we stayed on the roof of the BEQ and watched it go on all night. In the morning, we watched Army MedEvac choppers do vertical landings and takeoffs from the street by the Army hospital just south of us.
